Founded in 2008 by Mary Sedcieski at just 18 years old, GEMS4U began as a street vendor on Water Street, later moving outside of Finkelstein’s Music on Front Street before opening a storefront at 10 N. Front Street. Mary, who began beading at age 9 and started wire-wrapping crystals 6 years ago, finds the craft both relaxing and meaningful. Her passion for crystals and mining as a child sparked a lifelong journey of creativity and healing.
Now celebrating 17 years, GEMS4U has found its new home in The Cotton Exchange – Granary Building, Space 21 in downtown Wilmington, NC. Mary is joined by her dedicated team: Valerie Moore, Mother and Business Manager, who helps keep the magic running behind the scenes, and Andrea Jones, Senior Store Manager, who brings warmth and knowledge to every customer experience. Together, they share a love for helping others, building community, and making an impact through the beauty of crystals.
At GEMS4U, visitors can explore a vibrant collection of polished and raw crystals and one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry. The shop also offers custom wire-wrapping services, allowing customers to transform their own stones into meaningful keepsakes. Every piece and every interaction reflects the heart behind the business, with GEMS4U being proudly dedicated to Mary’s late father, Walter J. Sedcieski, Jr., and continues to grow with love, intention, and a deep sense of purpose.
